While on a trip to Seattle in the summer of 2022, I was struck by the emptiness in the street. It was a beautiful day and I loved the play of Espresso as an express bus was going down the street.
After playing with acrylics for a few months, I was happy to get back into oil painting which requires more patience. This painting was so much fun to paint a

From a travel photo to Berlin. These metal statues were found by a river on museum island. I loved the perspective. This was my first large canvas painting and challenged myself to paint bodies and to do this in grays.
I love the final perspective. I sold this painting to a classmate who fell in love with it. It's difficult to part with paintings

One of my first attempts to paint a pet. Phoebe was a sweet calico cat we had for 16 years. I somehow managed to capture the snarkiness of her face, though she often had a more beautiful one I captured in a later painting.

I was asked to paint a portrait of my maternal grandfather Ricardo Gonzalez by an uncle of mine. The reference was an old washed out B&W photo with a rather bland background.
I decided to change the background to that where my father came from (Jalisco, Mexico) and also to brighten the colors of the landscape. I started with a pink backgrou
Santa Rosa Trees in Winter

Oil on Canvas

This was a fun quick large painting of some bare trees in the Valley of the Moon in Santa Rosa. I loved the reflected light. I decided to retouch the sky using a palette knife and then proceeded to add the brown leaves on the trees and the red bushes in the foreground using the same technique.

Beautiful hotel in St. Helena. A nice post retirement trip around Thanksgiving 2018. Brings back wonderful memories of a crisp winter day full of sunshine, love, and good memories. I only wish it had been warm enough to take a swim!
